“SYLHET HEPATITS DAY “ was observed with great success on 15th February 2008 at the Divisional Dead Quarter of Sylhet . The day long Programme was inaugurated by Chief guest . Dr. Ifthekar Ahmed Choudhury, Honarable advisor, Ministry of Foreign affairs, Govt. of the people republic of Bangladesh. National Professor Brig. Gen M A Malek, founder Secretary General of National Heart Foundation and formar Advisor, Ministry of Health. Mr. A K M Zafar Ullah Khan, Secretary, Ministry of Health; Dr. Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, DG (Adl. Secretary) Social Welfare; Prof. Mohd. Abul Faiz, Director General, Health Services, Mr. Aziz Hassan Divisional Commissioner, Sylhet; Prof. M A Khaleque & Prof. M A Raqib, former Principal, Sylhet M AG Osmani Medical College attended as special guests.This kind of program is first time in Sylhet. The program includes Rally, Scientific Program & Information booths . Free Hepatitis B Vaccination was given to 323 orphan, deaf and dumb children of ‘Sylhet Sarkeri Shushu Paribar. Theme of the Day was “Know your liver & Protect your liver” Hundreds of people attendeed the Raly, Which was started Deputy Commissioners office to M. Saifur Rohman Auditorium at Rikabi Bazar. Thousands of posters, stickers fastons, Banners were distributed and placards at different parts of Sylhet. Information booths distributed information materials in different points of Sylhet city. The seminer was chaired by Prof. S.N. Samad Chodhury, Chairman of Liver Foundattion of Bangladesh.The main speech was delivered by Professor Mohammad Ali, Founder Secretary General, Liver Foundation of Bangladesh. He highlighted the prevalence of Liver diseases & its prevention strategies, Liver Foundation and its activities with future plans. Suggested for Country wide hepatitis screening Programme, vaccination to under privileged children, compulsory screening of Hepatitis for all pregnant women. He also suggested for making a vaccination plant for making Hepatitis B vaccine in Bangladesh which will be less costly so that our common people can afford it.He also expressed his willingness to start a centre of Liver foundation of Bangladesh at Sylhet. He requested the Govt, private organization and personnel contribution, cooperation for the same. Chief guest expressed his willingness to cooperate for the on going activities of the Foundation. Secretary, Ministry of Health & Director General, Health services also declared their concern about increase incidence of Heptitis-B in Bangladesh and expressed their willingness to cooperate with the foundation. Vote of Thanks was given by Prof. A.Q.M Mohsen, Vice chairman of the Foundation. Scientific Programme was chaired by Prof. Rezaul Karim, Principal Sylhet M.A.G. Osmani Medical College, in which Prof. A.Q.M Mohsen and Dr. Mohsin Kabir were the speakers. All the daily news papers published information of the day with great importance. they highly apriciated the activites of the foundation spacially tyhe Free vaccination of underprivileged orphan, deaf & dump children. the day will remain mile stone for prevention of liver diseases in sylhet.
